LATIN NAME: Artemesia dracunculus

A TOUCH OF HISTORY,

Tarragon is native to Central Asia (in the Siberian and Chinese regions). Its Latin name "dracunculus" means "little dragon". Dioscorides named it "dragon herbs". This herb healed snake bites, plague and cholera. Estragon arrived in Europe at the end of the Middle Ages. In France, they had to wait until the 16th century for it to be grown by monks. This herb is nowadays used in vinaigrettes and in the famous Parisian sauce (Béarnaise).
